SFDA Warns Against Eye Care Products for Containing High level of Lead

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has warned against two eye care products, black and red AL-ETHMED EYELINER, because they contain a high level of lead, which exceeded the permissible limit as an impurity.

SFDA stated that it has analyzed samples of eyeliner products traded in local markets to ensure their safety, and the results of the analysis showed that it contained a high level of lead, which exceeded the permissible limit as an impurity in the Safety Requirements of Cosmetics and Personal Care Products No. SFDA.CO/GSO 1943:2016.

SFDA pointed out that the first product is called " كحل خبراء الاثمد الإثمد الأسود خبراء كحل الإثمد الأصفهاني AL-ETHMED EYELINER “, and the second product is called  " كحل خبراء الاثمد الإثمد الأحمر خبراء كحل الإثمد الأصفهاني AL-ETHMED EYELINER ".

SFDA stressed that exposure to high levels of lead may cause anemia, high pressure, kidney diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases, including epilepsy and coma.

SFDA advised consumers not to use the mentioned products and to dispose their samples, stressing the importance of purchasing products from reliable sources through which the source of the product can be traced.
