SFDA Enhances Efforts at Entry Points for Medical Shipments

As the Hajj season approaches and delegations begin arriving at the holy sites via land, air, and sea, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has intensified l its oversight as part of a comprehensive operational plan to ensure the safety and availability of medical supplies for pilgrims.
The SFDA's inspection teams are currently stationed at several entry points, where they examine shipments of medicines and medical devices arriving with Hajj affairs offices and delegations. By verifying compliance with approved standards and requirements, these teams support the healthcare services provided to pilgrims and help streamline procedures at the ports.

To date, the SFDA has inspected 27 diverse shipments from 20 countries, clearing more than 187 tons of medical supplies while preventing the entry of approximately one ton of non-compliant food and pharmaceutical products.

The Authority also indicated that it has implemented several operational facilitations to ensure the continuous delivery of medical supplies for Hajj missions. This includes flexibility in inspecting certain shipments upon arrival at mission headquarters in the holy sites, thereby enhancing procedural efficiency and expediting delivery while maintaining the highest safety standards.

The SFDA emphasized that these efforts are conducted in coordination with relevant authorities within a comprehensive national system dedicated to the success of the Hajj season. This reflects the care and attention given by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s government and leadership to serving pilgrims and harnessing all available resources to ensure their comfort and safety.
