SFDA CEO Highlights Regulatory Role in Investment at the World Local Production Forum (WLPF) in Abu Dhabi

The Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), H.E. Dr. Hisham S. Aljadhey, participated in the third edition of the World Local Production Forum (WLPF) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from April 7-9, 2025. The forum was organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Emirates Drug Establishment (EAE) under the theme "Advancing Local Production for Health Equity, Global Health Security, and Sustainable Development.”

Dr. Aljadhey chaired a panel on "Critical Role of Regulatory Frameworks and Quality Standards in Healthcare Manufacturing." The panel included heads of regulatory bodies from China, Senegal, Cuba, and the African Union, who discussed how regulatory authorities support manufacturing and investment in pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Dr. Aljadhey stressed that robust regulatory systems grounded in good manufacturing practices and effective oversight are crucial for improving product quality, attracting quality investments, and building trust among investors and consumers. He affirmed the regulatory body's vital role as a partner in the growth and sustainability of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.

He further highlighted that supportive regulatory initiatives aimed at empowering investors and simplifying procedures have led to an 82% increase in factories and warehouses in Saudi Arabia. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the national regulatory environment in fostering the pharmaceutical and medical device industry and achieving health security objectives.

During the forum, Dr. Aljadhey also engaged with representatives from pharmaceutical and medical device companies to discuss support and address investor inquiries, underscoring the SFDA's commitment to strengthening private sector partnerships and creating a favorable regulatory environment for growth and investment.
