SFDA Highlights Digestive Benefits of Fennel and Anise, Advises Caution
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has acknowledged the digestive benefits of fennel ( Foeniculum vulgare ) and anise ( Pimpinella anisum ), noting their ability to alleviate bloating and gas. However, the SFDA strongly advises adherence to recommended dosages and consultation with a physician before use.
For fennel, the recommended daily dosage is 4.5 to 7.5 grams. The SFDA cautions against its use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or by individuals with known allergies. Furthermore, individuals with blood-thinning disorders should consult their physician before consuming fennel.
Regarding anise, the SFDA recommends a daily dose of 5 grams for indigestion relief. It notes that anise may trigger allergic reactions in some individuals and could interact with diabetes medications or contraceptives.
The SFDA emphasizes the importance of exercising caution when using herbal substances with therapeutic effects, stressing the need for physician consultation to avoid potential drug interactions or nutrient absorption issues.
Consumers can access a list of prohibited herbs, medicinal plants, and banned cosmetic products on the SFDA's official website.
