The Britain FSA (Food Standards Agency) declared the results of its exploratory study which aimed to discover the source of protein used in some powders that are added to poultry to retain water and improve the succulence of the meet (make meet juicy and tasty); the existence of protein should be listed on the label of the product. Results revealed that the kind of protein existed in some samples differs than what is written on labels, as the samples contain pork and beef proteins not only chicken protein.
Powders can be added to chicken products by injecting them as solutions to retain water. The Agency stated that it is carrying out further studies and gathering more information in partnership with other European Member States. It also added that results do not reveal that chicken products are unsafe, but it is important that consumers are given accurate information about their food.
The SFDA is pursuing the case in one hand and coordinating with relative authorities to insure nonexistence of such products in local markets for being forbidden on the other hand.
