Salmonella Contamination in Seven Cadbury Chocolate Brands

Seven cadbury chocolate brands have been recalled due to salmonella contamination.
The food standards Agency, UK, has issued a (Food Alert for Action( over one million chocolate bars have already been removed from shelves in the UK. Apparently, a leaking pipe at Cadburys
marl brook factory in Herefordshire caused the salmonella contamination.
What is Salmonellosis?
Salmonellosis is a bacterial disease caused by infection of some salmonella species which may lead to intestinal disorders.
Incubation period: 6 - 72 hours.
Symptoms: Fever-Vomiting-Mug-Constipation-Diarrhea (Commonly).
Causes of Salmonellosis:
- Increase use of food that produced from large food manufactures which distribute their products to a large number of consumers.
- Increase the eating of raw meat.
- Increase commercial trades.
- Decrease of individual immunity due to some changes t in health conditions.
Food associated with the infected Salemonellosis:
Poultry meats, raw meats, eggs, dry milk, raw cheeses, ice cream, food containing eggs and prepared maionez in the restaurants or homes and other food .
The Prevention of salmonella:
* Ensure the cleanliness of water used for drinking or manufacturing of food.
* Separation of raw food materials from ready to eat food.
* Cooking of foods enough to eliminate the microbe.
* Minimizing of cross contamination through cutting boards and knives by cleaning them after each use.
* Storing of food properly in the refrigerator.
* Destroying and preventing insects in food manufacturing environment.
Treatment:
Antibiotics are used when the disease develops outside intestinal wall and when the disease is prolongated.
